By now hopefully you have seen our Facebook page and/or the photos that have been posted hereon this site so you know that some really visible external progress is occurring at the Waco Convention Center!
This whole project is truly beginning to HAPPEN! The interior of the Lower Level is really turning out nice -- in the new Meeting Rooms, Ranger Rooms and Texas Room they have progressed beyond construction and are beginning the surface finishes -- tape, bedding, paint, etc. AND, the tile folks are supposed to begin within the next week. Much of the wall surfaces in the PreFunction (Lobby) space will be ceramic tile - clean and new!
They have begun the process of cutting the whole in the roof over the stair/escalator opening for the wonderful Skylight that will bring much-needed natural light into the building. Of course as they are beginning the roof cuts we are watching Hurricane Alex come onshore at the coast, bringing RAIN to central Texas -- timing! We won't begrudge the rain though...
And you see the photos on this site of the slab foundation that has been poured for the new addition - the wrap-around hallway on the McLennan rooms on the south side of the building!
Drilling for the 49 piers that will support the east-side (Brazos River side) addition - the balcony on the Brazos Ballroom -- has concluded and next we should see the foundation being poured and then construction!!
Work on the padsite for the new construction on the north (Washington Ave) side of the building is also coming together. They should begin drilling soon for the 40 piers that will support that new addition. Once all the piers are in place they will pour the concrete foundation and begin construction of that part of the building...
I see truckloads of steel being offloaded around the perimeter of the site -- staged to enable the contractor to begin the construction of the new parts of the building...it is all so exciting!! More later...stay tuned!
