On Tuesday, October 20 the Waco City Council approved a contract with Roth Construction of Victoria, Texas for construction and renovation services at the Waco Convention Center. The contract covers the base construction and eight alternates, totalling $12,895,018 -- and in additional action, Change Order #1 was approved which totals $2,334,118.64 -- bringing the grand total of this project to $15,229,136.64.
In January 2009 this project was put out for bid and all of the bids received at that time were too high - so all were rejected by the City. We had the architects go back and re-design parts of the project, cut some stuff out - some of it was really good stuff! But we had to be sure that when we took the project back out to bid that we would get good numbers - we knew we only had $15.5 million, plus interest, to spend.
The bids came in so good this time around that all of the items we had taken out of the project when it was re-designed are now able to be put back into the project -- which is why there was a change order to approve at the same time the contract was approved. The end result for us and for our customers is that we will be getting everything that we wanted to get in the original project!!
I will be updating here more regularly as the project gets started - right now we have paperwork to get signed and the contractor's mobilization of materials and resources onsite to start the actual demolition and construction work. More soon...LIZ
