The Grand Opening of the NEW Waco Convention Center and Rededication of the Waco Freedom Fountain will be on July 31, 2012 starting at 3:30 pm.
The Grand Opening ceremony will begin at the main entrance on the Washington Avenue side of the building. Liz Taylor will be the emcee for the event. Speakers will include Elizabeth Taylor, Director of the Waco Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Waco Convention Center; Larry Groth, City Manager of the City of Waco; and Mayor Malcom Duncan, Mayor of the City of Waco. There will be a ribbon cutting by Waco City Council members, City Manager, Waco CVB Advisory Board members, RBDR Architects, and Roth Construction, Inc.
At the conclusion of the Grand Opening Ceremony, all will be invited to move out to the Freedom Fountain for a special Rededication Ceremony. The Freedom Fountain is a 41 year-old historical landmark commemorating the twelve Wacoans who met with North Vietnamese officials in 1971 about treatment of American prisoners of war during the Vietnam War.
The Freedom Fountain Rededication Ceremony will include speakers Larry Groth, Mayor Malcom Duncan, and Cullen Smith.
The celebration continues with an Open House at the Waco Convention Center. Tours will be available, both self-guided and guided. All meeting rooms will be open and set up in various configurations. Food and beverages will be provided by WCC's On the Spot Catering in the Brazos Ballroom. Live music in the upper lobby.
