Join the Pride!
Celebrate Differences - Celebrate Success
The Waco Mayor's Committee for People with Disabilities, Cameron Park Zoo, and several state and local organizations have joined together to raise awareness about the special abilities of people with disabilities. The Join the Pride Event was inspired by a select group of animals at Cameron Park Zoo that have a variety of special needs, but still play a very important role at the zoo as ambassadors for their species and models for successfully managing special needs animals.
The weekend event coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and will begin the evening of July 23, 2010 with a reception at Cameron Park Zoo. Guests will hear from people who have overcome challenges to create successful lives that enrich their communities. The following day visitors to the zoo can partake in round table discussions, receive information from various organizations that serve people with disabilities, and meet some of Cameron Park Zoo's resident animals that face unique challenges and talk to the keepers that care for them.
