Mss, currently we are not aware of plans to build an off-leash dog park in Waco. However, many dog owners walk their dogs in the trails of Cameron Park, located just a mile from downtown. There is also a day each year that dogs and owners come to the Waco Water Park for a day off-leash.

Is there any progress towards a large, fenced off-leash dog park in or around Waco? I am deciding which of two positions to accept (different cities), and the availability of a good dog park is a major factor for me.

Frances, currently the best place to put a canoe in is at the McLennan Community College boat ramp. MCC is located just off Lake Shore Drive near 19th Street.

I have a friend who wants to canoe on the river for a few hours. Where can she enter the river?

Chris,
There are a ton of dog lovers in this area (I have 3 Huskies of my own) but so far, no off-leash areas. But the more dog lovers who come to the area, the greater chance we'll get one! Come on down.

Has Waco made any progress on the off-leash dog park under consideration? I'll be relocating to Texas with my pups this fall and an off-leash dog park in Waco would be a definitive "plus" for this area.

Gary, According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, "Some of the best white bass fishing in the spring can be done from the bank and while wading in the upper reaches of tributaries." I spoke to a local fisherman, and they agreed, specifically recommending the spill over on the Bosque River and Twin Bridges park near the bridge. Twin Bridges Park (formerly Speegleville III Park) is located on the west shore of the lake, off Hwy 6 North.

Recommendations for the best local bass fishing locations via bank or pier. (Don't have a boat available).

Gary, I am assuming you will be bringing your own horse. If so, I recommend Cameron Park. The river trail is beautiful and wide, and appropriate for kids. The inner trails are more intermediate to advanced.

We will be visiting Waco next month and would be interested in doing some horseback riding in the area. Can you tell me a kid friendly place to trail ride? And, is the paddle boat ride on the Brazos still available?

Dawn, there has been talk about the need for a dog park in Waco, but currently there is nothing planned. The closest we come to this is Dogtopia, a dog day care in Waco. Click here to visit Dogtopia.

Can you provide any further information on the dog park in the works? I have heard many say how much one is needed in Waco.

Hi Valerie! We would love for you to visit with your dog. There are some wonderful trails through Cameron Park where you can take your dog, but they are not the kind where you can let them run off lead. We also have a nice lake. There are some folks here working on a dog park, but we do not currently have one. Maybe it will be up and running by the time you visit. When you visit, stop by our Tourist Information Center - we'd be glad to meet you and your dog and our dog friendly staff can point you to dog friendly hotels, stores and parks.

Hi! I hope to come to Waco next year with my dog. Are there nice trials (preferably with water) where I can turn him loose? Thanking you kindly in advance for your answer!
